Why the name Ernani, associated with a hat and the color yellow?

Have you ever wondered why the name "Ernani"?

At the Corso Buenos Aires Torrefazione many ask us if the name derives from the owner, Mr. Ernani, or if he is simply a great lover of the work.

But Ernani is much more!

It expresses intrinsic values of our corporate culture and more.

Then creating a logical thread also with the logo, the famous feathered hat, and the yellow color, symbol of our origin.

But let's start from the beginning.

The plumed hat and the name "Ernani" have a triple origin: the name attributed to the hat, precisely plumed, used in the important five days of Milan by the rebels who fought against the Habsburg domination, from the title of the opera by Giuseppe Verdi and the name of the homonymous protagonist, and from the famous painting "The Kiss" by Hayez, in which the male subject, ready for battle, wears a hat with a feather.

Common values are always depicted in all three, namely courage, visionary spirit and the desire to rebel against the oppressor.

We then made our own the same values presented here, such as the desire to go against the tide, starting from the traditions of our city, that is Milan, but trying to improve them, in order to be able to offer a product with superior technologies and qualities.

It is from this desire for change and rebellion that the idea of using a medium roast level was born, to offer something different and qualitatively higher.

In fact, when you start from a quality raw material, that is a raw coffee without defects, you can use a medium roast, thus enhancing all the qualities of our beans and all the aromas contained in them.

On the contrary, when green coffee is of low quality and therefore has defects, such as unpleasant odors, broken beans, spoiled and so on, the coffee tends to be roasted a lot, bringing it almost to the point of burning. In this way it is possible to hide all the defects, covering them with the taste of bitterness and hints of burning.

We therefore started from an all-Italian tradition: espresso, however moving away from everything that we did not consider right to offer a quality product and which did not allow us to obtain a high quality coffee.

Finally we find a reason also in the lively yellow color, the Ernani yellow.

It brings back a completely Milanese history: it is the color of the historic trams of our incredible city, a color that dominated the streets throughout the twentieth century

Curiosity: one of the first tram lines inaugurated at the beginning of the twentieth century, passed in front of our Torrefazione, opened well in 1909, starting from Porta Venezia and then going through Viale Monza.

And finally I also wanted to tell you why the names of our blends: Allegro, Armonia, Vivace, Stretto, Adagio.

We now connect with the theme of the work, as these names represent its times.

But what convinced us most of all to choose these names is the fact that they are untranslatable all over the world, given that in any part of the globe anyone who goes to work will always read the same names written in Italian.

We liked and excited the idea that our blends will always be called the same way.
