Making quality coffee is no longer a ritual confined to the kitchen or bar. Today, you can enjoy an authentic experience wherever you are: traveling, in the office, in the mountains, or on the beach.
This is where Wacaco comes in.
a brand that has revolutionized the way we understand “portable” coffee, making it simple, fast, and surprisingly good.
But beware: the tool is only part of the equation. The real difference is always made by the coffee. With a specialty coffee like ours at Caffè Ernani, even an on-the-go preparation can transform into a complete sensory experience.
So let’s see how to make perfect coffee with Wacaco, step by step.
Why choose Wacaco for coffee on the go?
This coffee maker is designed to extract a creamy espresso through manual pressure.
The result is a consistent crema and a velvety body, while the aromas are intense and well-defined, all in a lightweight and super-compact device that you can take literally anywhere.
It’s perfect for those who:
- He wants quality even when travelling
- Find a personal ritual, wherever you are
- want to enjoy an espresso with a sunset view in the middle of nature
The Recipe: How to Make Coffee with Wacaco
What you need:
- Wacaco (Nanopresso or Minipresso), in this case I’m using the Nanopresso model for ground coffee. There are also many variants, including those compatible with capsules.
- Finely ground coffee, so for espresso or a little coarser.
- Hot water (about 90–95°C). You can carry this around in a thermos or heat it in a camping pot. You can also try it with cold water!
1. Choose the right coffee
Let’s start from here, because it’s the point that many underestimate.
A superior quality coffee completely changes the final result. With a specialty coffee:
- you smell precise aromatic notes
- you perceive natural sweetness
- avoid bitterness and astringency
My advice:

If you want a balanced result, choose a blend with good roundness, like Armonia.

2. Dose and grinding
Place about 8–10 grams of ground coffee into the filter.
How to understand if the grinding is correct?
If it’s too fine, the water won’t be able to pass through and the coffee will be very bitter.
If it’s too coarse, you’ll get a flat, watery, and under-extracted coffee.
This is where a large part of the final quality comes into play.
3. Level and compact
Distribute the coffee evenly and press lightly.
You don’t need to press as hard as with a professional machine: just create a compact and even surface.
4.Add hot water
Pour water at about 90–95°C into the tank, that is, just before boiling, when you start to see some bubbles at the bottom of the pan.
5. Pre-infusion
Before starting the full extraction, take 1–2 light pumps and wait a few seconds.
This allows the coffee to “swell” and prepare for extraction, improving the balance in the cup.
6. Extraction
Begin pumping at a steady pace.
You should get: a continuous stream of drink flowing into the cup, a visible crema, and a strong aroma.
The ideal time to start and finish extraction is around 25–35 seconds.
7. Taste
Don’t drink it absentmindedly. Stop for a second and ask yourself: what aromas do I smell? Is it sweeter or more acidic? What aftertaste does it leave?
This is the moment when coffee becomes an experience.
Mistakes to avoid
If the result doesn’t convince you, it’s probably for one of these reasons:
- Incorrect grinding → too bitter or too watery
- Water too hot → flat and burnt taste
- Low quality coffee → no technique can save it
- Irregular pressure → unstable extraction
Correcting even one of these aspects can completely change the outcome.
The real value of this coffee: the moment
Making coffee with Wacaco isn’t just a practical solution.
It’s an invitation to slow down.
To take a moment, even when you’re on the go.
To carry with you a small ritual that connects you to home, to habits, to pleasure.
And if that coffee is really good, that moment becomes even more yours.
Final Thoughts
With Wacaco and a quality coffee, like Caffè Ernani, you can transform any place into your tasting corner.
You don’t need a complex machine.
You don’t need a coffee shop.
All you need is the raw materials, the equipment, and water… along with a strong desire to experience coffee more consciously.
Because in the end, coffee is not just a drink.
It’s a moment you choose to take.
